This policy area concerns means by which the atmospheric carbon sequestration role of soils, terrestrial vegetation, freshwater wetland and marine ecosystems can be promoted within Australia and globally. It will concern the management of both natural ecosystems and primary production systems. It will include policies concerned with the protection of existing natural systems, regenerative culture to re-establish or create ecosystem functions, modification of production systems and manipulation of natural or modified systems to enhance their carbon sequestration capacity. Policies will need to consider suitable legislative frameworks and economic incentives for the engagement of natural resource managers.
